After School Sewing Basics (Ages 9-12)

Our sewing classes offer opportunities for children to learn the basics of sewing and celebrate their achievements while creating items they can use. Students will learn the basics of sewing with a machine as well as by hand. Projects will be varied to keep students excited!

After School Teen Sewing Sessions (Ages 13-16)

Our sewing classes offer opportunities for children to learn the basics of sewing and celebrate their achievements while creating items they can use. Students will learn to use patterns to create garments and other projects. Use of a sewing machine and hand sewing will be covered. Sewing classes at Albany Parks & Recreation are a great way for your child to exercise their creativity!

Albany Exploration Zone

We provide the STEM supplies, staff, and activities – your kiddo just needs to arrive ready to have fun! These Saturday classes include an age-appropriate STEM activity and an additional activity or free time. Because we understand that families have busy schedules, you can register for as many of these standalone activities as you like – choose just one or all of them!

Albany Gems Dance Team

Do you love to dance? Are you interested in joining an awesome team? The Albany Gems Dance Team, a program offered through Albany Parks and Recreation, provides great opportunities to develop skills and the attitude youth need to be successful! Dancers learn fitness, nutrition, teamwork, and valuable life skills all while being part of a team. This team is a competitive performance team, but also has positions available for dancers that aren’t quite ready to get in front of a crowd or are new to the program.

Fairytale Dance

There’s nothing more imaginative than fairytales! Experience the magic of ballet as your child stretches, leaps, and dances across the floor. Using props and interactive songs, this class will help improve balance and coordination while introducing your child to the fundamentals of ballet.

Family Photo Day

Select your 10-minute time slot, gather the family, and let us take care of the rest! You will receive 5-7 professionally edited images in a personal online gallery from Kristi Crawford Photography.

Family Tree Climbing

In this intro experience designed for everyone, learn to climb some of the largest and tallest trees in the world around 300ft high. Recreational tree climbing, also known as canopy climbing, is an unforgettable adventure that will allow you to climb to the top of the canopy of these massive trees where few people have been. This is your chance to try something not even 0.001% of the population has done. Explore a perspective of nature rarely seen and learn about the unique ecology, plants, and animals of old-growth forests.

FREE - Community Play Date

Connect with other parents & caregivers at this free weekly meetup at the Riverfront Community Center! There will be toys, games, rotating crafts for the kiddos, and snacks and drinks available in the coffee shop. No registration required! Every Wednesday: October 5 - December 14 from 10am - Noon.

Holiday Sewing

We will be making various holiday decorations using felt, fabric, ribbon, buttons, and other decorative materials.

Just Dance

A combo jazz and lyrical dance class that is fun and energetic. This dance style is often associated with Broadway musicals. Dancers will learn turns, leaps, and jumps as well as building flexibility, strength, techniques and coordination as they move to inspiring music.

LEGO Building

Children 7-12 years old will get the opportunity to practice LEGO building skills and have fun tackling each week’s theme challenge. No prior building experience needed. Parents are Welcome to stay, but not required. Children’s projects won’t be taken home, but can be photographed and/or put in the LEGO Building Class display case for everyone to enjoy! This class is open to all skill levels, no prior building experience necessary.

Trick or Treat Cruise-Thru

We want to see those cool costumes - so dress up and come trick-or-treat with us! There will be candy and goodies to collect along the way and some spooktacular decorations!

Winter Sewing Camp

Students will make winter-themed projects, some of which may include scarves, mittens, slippers, fleece booties, hats, book covers. Hot chocolate may be involved!

Aqua Jog

Aqua jogging is a group fitness class with a trained professional teaching for about an hour. The classes focus on aerobic endurance, resistance training, and creating an enjoyable atmosphere sometimes with music.

Household Recreation Swim

Gather up the entire family for some fun in the pool! Members of the same household are invited to come and swim together. Adults are required with anyone under age 16.

Lap Swim

Lap Swim is exactly what it sounds like - swimming laps! Do your own personal training routine. When the shallow end is available, walking is permitted.

Personal Exercise

Aqua jogging is so fun & popular. This is not an instructor led session and participants must remain socially distanced from other participants. Flotation devices are available.

Senior Fitness

Senior Fitness is a group fitness class with a trained professional teaching for 45 minutes. The classes focus on aerobic endurance, resistance training, and creating an enjoyable social atmosphere sometimes with music.

Water Aerobics is a group fitness class with a trained professional instuctor. The classes focus on aerobic endurance, resistance training, and creating an enjoyable atmosphere sometimes with music.

Youth Swim Lessons

Make a splash with swim lessons at Albany Community Pool! Learning to swim teaches skills to be safe in the water and so much more. Swimming builds self confidence, develops self-esteem and makes water a safe, fun environment for a lifetime. We are focused on developing strong swimmers and confident kids.

Albany String Orchestra (Ages 10-Adult)

The Albany String Orchestra is a beginner-intermediate level ensemble for violin, viola, cello, and string bass players with prior playing experience or who have completed at least a year of instruction.

Fascinating Memoirs

Learn how to creatively write your legacy; your life story, or your most interesting experiences. This class will also study some great published memoirs, explore different types of memoirs, how to interview a memoir subject, and write a memoir of your own.

FREE - Understanding Credit

What makes up a credit score? We'll talk about credit scores and learn where your credit score comes from, why it matters, and tips on how to improve it.

Unlocking the Mysteries of Hebrew

Absorb the history and learn some of the Hebrew language. It is an ancient language still being spoken by millions of people in modern times. Course will include learning the alphabet, basic words, and the occasional song!

Acrylic Painting for Fun

This course is designed for all skill levels, no experience required, and you can use whatever acrylic paints and brushes you have already. We will be painting on wood, glass, cloth, canvas, canvas boards, and anything else that sounds like fun. The goal of the class is to have fun and explore the versatility of the medium of acrylics.

Advanced & Intermediate Watercolor Painting

Delight in the color, brilliance, and challenge of watercolor painting. Learn composition, perspective, reflections, shadows, and color theory with new and challenging techniques. This class is for those who are already knowledgeable of the basics of watercolor.

Basic and Creative Calligraphy

Practice letter forms and handwriting in this class that will help you fine-tune your artistic talents. This class also covers calligraphy related art and crafts including bookbinding, basic watercolor, and more.

Express Yourself

Express yourself and get creative, whether you are a beginning artist or more experienced! Join me in mixing up and exploring different and inventive ideas for new media. Projects are designed for fun and success!

Create amazing garden art that will really jazz up your garden and give it some color! You will have access to a variety of beautiful glass. Have a fun time meeting new friends, getting creative, and have a new masterpiece at the end of your creative journey!

Fused Glass Jewelry

Create stunning earrings, pins, or pendants. Students will have access to a variety of beautiful glass. Let your imagination go wild and dazzle your friends with your special jewelry.

Fused Glass Picture Holder

Join us to create a beautiful picture holder. Students will have access to a variety of beautiful glass. Let your creativity take over and create a work of art.

Fused Holiday Ornament

Join us for one of our most popular classes! Make a unique one-of-a-kind holiday ornament. Simply arrange different shapes and types of colored glass elements to make your very own unique design. will have access to a variety of beautiful glass to build their creation. You will have a fun time meeting new friends and creating a beautiful masterpiece!

Gnome Garden in a Pot

Let's build a Gnome Garden center piece or pot for your outdoor or indoor garden or table. Completed gnomes will be approximately six inches tall. Week one will be making the gnome and week two will be painting and sealing it. Bring a 12" or larger sized pot filled with soil and any cute decorative pieces you'd like to include.

Intermediate Sewing

Students will build on what they have learned in Beginning Sewing or form previous experience. Students must bring a pattern to the first class and the correct amount of muslin for their size as stated on the pattern.

Mosaic Holiday Plaque

Create your own holiday plaque! Students will have access to a variety of beautiful tiles. Let your imagination come to life and you will go home with beautiful pieces to put on display.

Mosaic Jewelry Holder

Create your own jewelry holder! Students will have access to a variety of beautiful tiles. Let your imagination come to life and you will go home with beautiful pieces to put on display.

Mosaic Owl Plaque

You will create your very own mosaic owl plaque! You will lay out and place your unique design during the first-class using tiles and gorgeous glass. On the second night you will grout your creation. Invite your friends, make it a date night, or fly solo!

Sewing: Stuffed Holiday Deer

We will be hemstitching a stuffed felt deer or two to get ready for the Holidays in this fun and relaxing adult class.

HEALTHY, ACTIVE, AND FIT!

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program

This program offers gentle, joint-safe exercises developed specifically for people with arthritis to help relieve stiffness, decrease arthritis pain, and improve balance. The low-impact exercises can be done while sitting, standing, or on the floor.

Belly Dance Basics

Learn foundational belly dance movements, while exploring proper dance posture, transitions, cueing, and group improvisation. Belly dance is fun, but it also helps develop fluidity, core strength, and balance.

Better Bones & Balance (afternoon)

OSU Bone Research Labs have shown this exercise program will significantly slow the rate of bone loss in adults of all ages. Improve your balance, flexibility, coordination, and see an increase in muscle tone and overall body fitness.

Early Morning Fitness

If you’re up early, then this is the class for you! It will include warm up activities, walking, stretching, and strength training with light hand-weights. Everyone is welcome and those with physical limitations are given special attention.

Gentle Yoga

This class will offer a slower paced yoga practice what will encourage moving the body within a pain free range of motion. Cues for safe alignment and a chair can be used throughout class.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a form of movement, meditation, and martial art that originated in China. Promotes relaxation, relief from stress, and improved general well-being by practicing mind/body harmony and cultivating internal energy or 'chi”.

Zumba / Zumba Toning

Zumba/Zumba Toning provides a total body workout using easy to follow choreographed dance moves to combine all elements of fitness-cardio, muscle conditioning, balance, and flexibility. Zumba Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise because they are super effective and amazingly fun.

Zumba® is a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness program featuring easy to follow, low-impact aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms. Latin and international dance music create fun and even party-like classes. Achieve long term goals and benefits of improved agility, flexibility, cardio, and muscular strength. A Very Merry PDX-MAS

Coastal Loop

Nothing says fall like a visit to two of our favorite destinations! From fields laden with glorious orange pumpkins fresh fruits, and vegetables all year round, bakery, deli and coffee shop, and a visit to the store and gallery, Bauman’s Farm and EZ Orchards have it all! Stock up on fall décor and get your pumpkins for your porch!

Fall Train Excursion

Enjoy a historic, unique train ride through the lower Hood River Valley. Leaving the valley floor, you will cross and ride along 3 miles of the lower main fork of the Hood River while we navigate a 3% grade that takes you on one of only five switchbacks remaining in the United States. All the while, you’ll be enjoying peek-a-boo views of Mt Hood, Oregon’s tallest peak.

My Fair Lady

From Lincoln Center Theater that brought you The King & I and South Pacific, comes “a sumptuous new production of the most perfect musical of all time” Lerner & Loewe’s MY FAIR LADY. This glowing production is “thrilling, glorious and better than it ever was” (New York Times). “Every so often a revival comes along that reminds you how indispensable great theater can be”. Boasting such classic songs as “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “The Rain in Spain,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” and “On the Street Where You Live,” MY FAIR LADY tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor who is determined to transform her into his idea of a “proper lady.” But who is really being transformed?

Polk County Craft Festival

Our first stop of the day will be the Polk County Craft Festival in Rickreall. There you can shop a wide variety of hand-crafted items and enjoy baked goods, Christmas items, wreaths, baskets, gift packs and much more! After shopping we will head to lunch at The Pink House Cafe. This classic old house in historic Independence has a lovely lunch service that has fans providing rave reviews.

Portland Spirit Cruise & Lighted Ships

Enjoy a festive dinner while cruising the Willamette River onboard the Portland Spirit. A full three-course meal and live piano music will create a great holiday atmosphere for watching the parade of ships. Colorful light displays adorn ships, yachts, and other vessels as they cruise past us in Portland’s Christmas lighted ship parade.

Santiam Train Excursion Brunch

Join us for brunch on the Santiam Train Excursion. Enjoy all of your brunch favorites, with a view you won’t soon forget! Sit back, relax, and enjoy sweet and savory brunch dishes like pancakes, eggs, coffee. If you want to enjoy a refreshing mimosa, can you visit the bar car to order you one up!

Silverton Christmas Market

There is no time like the holidays to enjoy the splendor of the Oregon Garden Resort. Don’t miss this Christmas spectacular! This joyous holiday experience offers something for all ages, walk through an immersive path packed with more than a million lights (more lights and a longer path this year!), cruise down the snowless tubing hill, take your picture with Santa, enjoy live music in the Biergarten, and shop for handmade gifts and imported German goods at our authentic German market.

Sound of Music

Join us for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s unforgettable 1959 musical setting of the heartwarming story of Maria Kutschera, an earnest if overly spirited novice at an Austrian convent who was sent by her abbess to be the governess of the children of widowed naval officer, Baron Georg von Trapp, eventually married him, and proceeded to oversee the family’s subsequent career as the world-renowned Trapp Family Singers. The Sound of Music has touched the hearts of audiences around the world. The show's beautiful score, which includes “Edelweiss”, “Climb Every Mountain”, “My Favorite Things”, “Do-Re-Me”, “Sixteen Going On Seventeen” and “The Sound of Music”, has made the final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein one of the world’s most beloved musicals!

Sternwheeler Cruise: Land & Water Adventure

Ride the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler on a one-way cruise from Cascade Locks to Portland. Travel through Bonneville Locks and Dam and pass scenic locales such as Multnomah Falls, Rooster Rock, and Vista House at Crown Point. Enjoy the sights including the bridges that make Portland famous.

The Grotto's Christmas Festival of Lights

With over 500,000 lights, 150 choral performances, a petting zoo, carolers, puppet shows, and hot chocolate, the annual Festival of Lights at The Grotto is a special event for the whole family. The Grotto’s Christmas Festival of Lights welcomes all who want to be inspired with the joy and hope of Christmas. A special highlight will be a visit to the Portland Speedway for their Winter Wonderland which is the largest holiday light show west of the Mississippi.

Thompson's Mills State Heritage Site

We’ll tour Thompson’s Mills for a unique reminder of the last 150 years of Oregon rural life. It is the oldest water-powered grain mill in the state, moving water from the Calapooia River to the mill head gates since 1858. Then we will travel to Brownsville where there will be time to browse the historic town before we head to dinner. You will need to be able to climb stairs for this trip.

Wildlife Safari

Take a walk on the wild side! Nestled in a large, wooded valley, Wildlife Safari features over 550 animals from around the world. We will view over 76 species from our bus including tigers, giraffes, zebras, lions, elephants, bison, elk, and bears.

Zoo Lights

Celebrate the holiday season amid the sparkling lights and brilliant hues of ZooLights. More than a million lights transform the Oregon Zoo into a luminous winter wonderland filled with moving sculptures, forests of lighted trees, and animal silhouettes. Cap off your visit by boarding the zoo's light-bedecked steamer train, which provides a unique view of the ZooLights splendor. More than 200 animated animals will swing through trees, jump across lawns, hide in bushes, and appear where they are least expected.
